Assignment of the Module Part 1. I am a staff nurse working in gynaecology department delivering care for the pregnant women with different complications whilst pregnant and caring for any client with gynaecology problem. The aim of this assignment is to focus on the mentor role and to make sure that the student has met the criteria required for the clinical placements. A mentor is therefore an individual who has achieved the knowledge, skills and competence required to meet the defined outcomes of stage 2 of the developmental framework to support learning and assessment in practice(NMC,2006a). The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC 2008a) defines â€Å"the role of a mentor as someone who facilitates learning, supervises and assesses learners in practice settings (p 45). The role of a mentor is to help facilitate the development of future generations of nurses and midwives. As a mentor i have the privilege and responsibility to help students translate theory into practice, and making what is learned in the classroom a reality. Passing on your knowledge and skills is one of the most essential roles I can undertake, and it can be very rewarding. As a mentor I am required to offer the student support and guidance in the practice area. My role is to enable the student to make sense of their practice, to apply of theory into practice. As a mentor I assess and expectations of a mentor. As a mentor, I should normally support no more than three students at
